With car: Cross by the ferry from Lauvvik to Oanes and continue along Rv13. Or cross by the ferry from Stavanger to Tau, continue south on Rv13 and follow the signs. With ferry/bus: Ferry from Stavanger to Tau and in the season. Off season taxi.

The Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), the most famous tourist attraction in Ryfylke, towers an impressive 604 metres over the Lysefjord. The plateau is approximately 25 x 25 metres, flat and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Lysefjord and surrounding mountains. Along the trail, there are picnic areas and excellent bathing spots.
Remember proper walking shoes/boots, walking sticks, warm clothing and food.

2 hours hike from Preikestolhytta to Preikestolen (one way).
Season: April - October.

How to get to Preikestolen:
By public transportation in main seson: Ferry from Fiskepirterminalen in Stavanger to Tau and corresponding bus to Preikestolen Fjellstue where you start the hike, Boreal or Tide Buss/Norled.

By public transportation in low seson: Ferry from Stavanger to Tau and corresponding bus to Jørpeland. The remaining part of the way is by taxi from Jørpeland to Preikestolen fjellstue (around 9 km).

By car: Drive to Lauvvik and cross with ferry from Lauvvik to Oanes and continue along Rv 13 and follow the signs to Preikestolen. Or go by ferry from Stavanger to Tau (40 minutes) and drive south on National Tourist Route Ryfylke following the signs to Preikestolen. 

It is also wonderful to experience the Pulpit Rock from the fjord, either from a sightseeing boat or from a car ferry going from Lauvvik, Oanes, Stavanger, or from several other places of call on Lysefjorden. See timetable at or
