Winters are mild in Ryfylke – but the slopes and ski lifts are never far away! The Tourist Information Offices would be happy to give you the details on facilities, transport and snow conditions. Ryfylke is a great place for snow-filled fun. Svandalen near Sauda provides great alpine skiing; the snow cannon ensures perfect conditions as soon as the temperature drops in December. In Suldal, too, you can race down the slopes after New Year.
Along the fjords themselves, you can enjoy the mild green winter. Relax in rented cabin, let your children play outside while you light the fire and prepare the hot chocolate. Great fun for the entire family.

January through March you can take excursions on sightseeing boats. (See Activities and Boat trips.) During the winter season, there is a special Ski Boat from Stavanger to Sauda. The Snowbus to Røldal goes from Stavanger via Tau - Hjelmeland - Suldal to Røldal. You can also find information about skiing boats under Activities and Attractions.

There are prepared cross-country skiing trails throughout the region. Get your pulse and adrenalin racing – in the Gullingen area of Suldal, Lyngsheia in Årdal, or in scenic Sauda. Let the boat take you to your winter or Easter holiday! There is also ample opportunity to go off the prepped tracks and into the heartland of the SVR Ryfylkeheiane Nature Reserve. The DNT Stavanger Turistforening has cabins here and a total of 450 km of stick-marked tracks. Always contact them before heading off for a larger winter tour and inquire about safety, local conditions and whether cabins are open.
